The Ithaca Rotary Club is pleased to announce the awardees for its 2017 round of community grants. Eight grant requests were funded at a total of $6,015. The agencies will be honored at a check presentation on Wednesday, October 11 during Rotary’s noon lunch meeting at Coltivare. Funds for these grants are raised through Rotary’s annual Little Apple Fall Follies (LAFF) event, to be held this coming Saturday, October 7 during Ithaca Apple Festival Week.

The 2017 grant recipients are:

Beverly J. Martin Elementary School - $1,000
Raise student literacy achievement by implementing the Math & Movement program

Boy Scouts of America - $650
Begin downtown Ithaca Scouting initiative to grow the program in a typically underserved area

Brooktondale Community Center - $945
Design, build and install a multipurpose sign to promote all aspects of programming

Ithaca Health Alliance / Ithaca Free Clinic - $465
Purchase a large capacity refrigerator to store medications

Multicultural Resource Center / GIAC - $625
Creation of a “Portals to Peace” mural on Green Street to welcome the local Muslim community

St. John’s Episcopal Church - $1,000
Install washers and dryers for free Laundry Love project

Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service - $550
Update and enhance the public outreach project, The Listening Tent

Unity House - $780
Purchase three heavy duty folding transport wheelchairs


Ithaca Rotary’s community grants are intended to promote the quality of life in Tompkins County and the greater Ithaca area. These grants support organizations in the community that have special projects or needs which are not funded by general funding sources. Grants are usually awarded within the range of $200 to $1,000.
