North Lansing Auxiliary Dinner

For over a half century the North Lansing Auxiliary has raised money for a myriad of causes within the Lansing community, to fund scholarships, and maintain the North Lansing fire station.  Saturday the members gathered at the Sunset Restaurant in Auburn to celebrate another sucessful year of volunteerism and a job well done.

"No matter how much or how little you are involved, if not for all of you, we would not be enjoying this pleasant evening, each of you contribute to our successful Pancake Breakfasts or our annual Election Day Dinner and Supper whether it is by working, furnishing goods or just general support," said Auxiliary Treasurer Connie Wilcox. "It is so hard to do individual recognitions because I am always afraid of leaving someone out, but I would like to say huge thank you to all of you, who always seem to be there and that is everyone in this room. There are also guests here who are not members but are willing to help us."

Meals at the fire station are iconic in North Lansing, but the really huge Auxiliary event is the Election Day Dinner and Supper.  677 meals were served last November, including 225 dinners and 452 suppers, raising $4,518.03, 85% to 90% of which goes back to the Lansing community.  Included in the total was 60 quarts of beet salad, which is both served at the dinner and supper and offered in jars for sale.  But if you want the popular beet salad you had better reserve your order well ahead of time, because it is extremely popular.  More than one beet salad fan left the fire station disappointed last November.  All told there was $735 in beet salad and cutlery sales, and donations amounted to $735.

The Auxiliary also earned $4,648 from pancake breakfasts, not counting a special one that attracted 383 hungry pancake eaters, and yielded $1,822.96 to benefit the Lansing Varsity Soccer team.

The Auxiliary donates Christmas presents to a family in need each year.  This year they spent $700 for gifts and groceries, and sent a check to the Salvation Army for an additional $500.

Wilcox had a word for each of the members, as well as non-member who help run Auxiliary events.  She also thanked Fire Commissioner Bob Wagner for the Lansing Fire District's support of the North Lansing station, which received a significant face lift last year.

"All in all we had a very successful year and that is because of all of you," Wilcox said. "So Thank you so much for all that you do!"
