United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) announced its volunteer leadership for 2019-20 includes Jason Moore, Tompkins Trust Company, as Board Chair and Cal Walker, a long-time community activist and social entrepreneur and Cornell University retiree, who will serve as Community Campaign Chair.

Jason Moore first served as a United Way volunteer in 2009 as a campaign committee member. Seeing the positive impact United Way of Tompkins County donors and funded partners make in people's lives caused him to become more and more involved, and he has served on the Board of Directors since 2011.  

"I believe it is extremely important to support the communities we work and live in and UWTC provides a strong vehicle for companies and individuals to do so. UWTC serves thousands of individuals every year including our friends and neighbors," states Moore, who is Vice President of Commercial Lending and resides in Lansing with his family.

James Brown, UWTC President & CEO, notes, "Jason's election as Chair of the UWTC Board has generated great hope and excitement. Over the years, Jason has been a tireless leader who inspires by example and an uncompromising ethical and moral compass."  

Chairing UWTC's 2019-20 campaign will be community leader and champion Cal Walker. Cal has lived in Ithaca, NY for over forty-three years, during which time he's built an impact through roles within various organizations including, Cornell University, Legal Shield, and Village at Ithaca, which he founded.

Walker shares, "Having lived in Ithaca most of my adult life, I have deep appreciation for the many organizations whose dedicated work continues to help make our community a better place to live. I'm honored to chair the United Way Annual Campaign and very excited about sharing some of the impacts of that work throughout our community and, also, encouraging even greater levels of support to ensure that work continues."

Brown adds, "Having Cal join the UWTC Board and lead the campaign are meaningful examples of his grace, generosity and belief in the people of this region."

Walker will make his first public appearance in this role at the Community Campaign Kick-Off during UWTC's Day of Caring on Thursday, September 12 from 12 – 1pm at the Large Pavilion at Stewart Park. That morning, community members and businesses can drop off non-perishable food that will support all 14 food pantries in Tompkins County's Food Distribution Network. After the Kick-off event, those pantries will arrive to pick up donated food for distribution. The public is welcome to attend any portion of the day.

Working with donors, community volunteers and funded partners, United Way of Tompkins County supports individuals in their efforts to live self-sufficient, productive lives and helps build a stronger, healthier community for Tompkins County. 100% of individual donations to go services and programming in the areas of health, financial stability and education.
