tcat Bridgette Brady
Veteran transportation professional Bridgette Brady assumed the leadership role as 2020 chairperson for the Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) Board of Directors at the board's annual meeting Jan. 23.

Brady, senior director of Cornell University's transportation and delivery services, has served on the TCAT board since 2015. She replaces Ducson Nguyen, Ithaca Common Council 2nd-Ward alderperson, who now assumes the role of immediate past chairperson.

Prior to joining Cornell, Brady served as transportation services director at Washington State University where she worked to transform a car-centric culture into one that embraces alternative transportation.

"Transportation is in my DNA, but I also have a strong passion for leadership," Brady said after formally taking office, adding that she embraces a "servant-leadership" style, telling the board and staff, "I am here to work for you."

In addition to Brady and Nguyen, TCAT's the other board officer in 2020 is Laura Lewis, Ithaca Common Council 5th-Ward alderperson, who was named secretary-treasurer. Lewis joined the board last year upon the recommendation of the city.

TCAT's board is structured as follows: City of Ithaca, Tompkins County and Cornell University are TCAT's local funders. TCAT was established as a joint venture of transit agencies from each in 1998, and later became a private, not-for-profit corporation, effective 2005. As such, each funder is entitled to nominate three people to serve on the board. Those recommended, in turn, are considered for election by the TCAT board and, in their capacity as TCAT board members, serve TCAT independently.

Other board members who are continuing to serve on the board include:

  • Frank Proto, former Tompkins County legislator, recommended by the county
  • Deborah Dawson, Tompkins County legislator (District 10), recommended by the county
  • Jennifer Dotson, executive director for Ithaca Carshare, recommended by the city
  • Dan Klein, Tompkins County legislator (District 7), recommended by the county
  • Gary Stewart, associate vice-president, Cornell University Community Relations, recommended by university
  • Denise Thompson, manager of Cornell’s Off-Campus Living, recommended by the university
