Neither boy could be at the Town Meeting to receive their awards. Duthe is a student at the University of Arkansas, where he continues to compete in golf. Dake was committed to attend his girlfriend's soccer match. But Bill Duthe was on hand to receive the award for his son.
Farkas, an enthusiastic golfer, presented the certificate to Duthe's father Bill Duthe. "Periodically we have people in our schools that attain some very significant things in their career," he said. "John is now at the University of Arkansas, playing golf, of course. Kyle Dake is doing an outstanding job in wrestling."
"He was the first one to win the New York State High School championship in odd years," Duthe said. "He won it as a sophomore, and again as a senior. Then on top of that he won the New York State Men's Amateur Tournament as a high school senior. It's the first time somebody's been able to do that. It's quite an accomplishment. He worked hard for it."
Later in the meeting the board unanimously voted to declare November 25 Lansing Youth Service Committee Day.
The proclamation reads, "Whereas, the Lansing Youth Service Committee has effectively recognized and addressed changing youth needs in Lansing for 20 years; and Whereas, the Lansing Youth Service Committee has provided youth service programs to promote health, happines, and the well being of Lansing youth; and Whereas, the Lansing Youth Service Committee encourages participation and contributes to the quality of life and sense of community regardless of age, race, ethnicity, social status, gender, and disability; and Whereas, the Town of Lansing appreciates the dedication and contributions of the volunteers and staff of the Lansing Youth Service Committee; and Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Town of Lansing proclaims November 15, 2007 as Lansing Youth Service Committee."
