The library recently purchased a one year license from Movie Licensing USA, a division of Swank Motion Pictures, Inc. The license will allow the library to show movies from most major studios, including Paramount, Warner Bros., Miramax, Walt Disney Pictures and Touchstone.
The teen movie program, Books Into Movies, will kick-off the library’s movie program, but additional programs for adults and younger children are currently being planned.
The teen program will begin Thursday, July 31, 2008 with the movie adaptation of Louis Sachar’s popular novel Holes.
Books Into Movies will continue with the August 7th screening of Tuck Everlasting and the August 28th presentation of The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. All movies will be shown at 6:00 PM in the Borg Warner Community Meeting Room.
Refreshments will be provided by the library’s Teen Advisory Group through the Tompkins County Public Library Foundation with a gift from the Cornell Panhellenic Association.
Movies have been selected with a teen audience in mind; however, parents are encouraged to review ratings of each movie prior to allowing their children to attend. The library will not be responsible for restricting admittance to films based on age or maturity.
