The Lansing School District will suffer a loss today as District Clerk & Secretary to the Superintendent Jodie Rusaw finishes her last day. Rusaw has held the position for three years, serving Interim Superintendents Tiffany Phillips and Tom Helmer, Superintendent Mark Lewis and current Superintendent Stephen Grimm. Rusaw was honored at Monday's Board Of Education meeting with testimonials by Grimm, board members, and resident Ted Laux.
We'd like to thank you for all your help and everything you have done for us," said Board of Education President Anne Drake. "We are definitely going to miss you."
"Jodie was the first person I met coming into the district whether it was on the phone or through e-mail," Grimm said. "One of the things I was looking at was how the district handles communications. Everything was first class. She has represented us very well over the years that she has been here. A first class district. I don't think a superintendent could ask for anything more in an employee. She is a dedicated team player who would stay to the end as long as it takes to get not only the job done, but the job done in an excellent fashion. Excellence was a standard and that is what she worked for."
"In the last couple of years I have had many occasions to deal with the district office, either requesting information through the Freedom of Information Act," Laux said. "In every case Jodie handled things professionally, promptly, and correctly. In particular I recall that she was the liaison that dealt with the search committee that selected the superintendent. She was the one that coordinated everything. Everything went very well and smoothly. I heard many people say out loud how well that was done, and complimenting Jodie on how well things went. We're all going to miss her."
Rusaw, who is leaving to work for a high tech company located at Cornell Business & Technology Park was presented with a card, flowers, and four farewell cakes. "I don't think I can eat four cakes!" Rusaw joked. She went on to say, "It's been a pleasure to work with the board and the administration and all the superintendents."
"She made my life a lot easier," Grimm said. "She has helped in the last eight months getting me up to speed with things that a new superintendent needs to know. She's been able to make recommendations on procedures. Just trying to capture what she does do now is a daunting task. To have that type of intelligence and character and work ethic in my office was incredible, and it is going to be a devastating loss."
Grimm joked that he is not pleased with Rusaw, because she is leaving. "She has deflected all kinds of offers and reconfigurations," he noted. "I think it's going to be a great opportunity for her and her family to move onto this next endeavor. I wish her the best of luck and I know she will be happy."
