ImageSciencenter executive director Charlie Trautmann has been named to a second three-year term on the board of directors of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), an international organization based in Washington, D.C. that represents 450 science centers in 42 countries serving over 60 million visitors annually and is dedicated to furthering the public understanding of science among increasingly diverse audiences. Trautmann holds one of 15 international seats on the board and represents small science museums.

Trautmann was recently selected to co-chair a new global initiative to increase the impact of science museums worldwide. In August 2008, he completed an international survey of 450 science museum directors to identify critical issues in which science understanding and public engagement are needed, and reported his findings at the 2008 ASTC annual conference in Philadelphia in October.

 

Trautmann has served on ASTC's Analysis and Trends Committee since 2003 and has published a number of research papers analyzing patterns in museum visitor attendance and their implications on programs and marketing.
