ImageLast Saturday, January 24th, 19 students from Lansing Middle School and 16 students from Lansing High School took part in the All-County Choral Festival at Groton High School. These students were joined by more than 200 students from seven other area middle schools and six other high schools to form two choral groups. These two groups met together for the first time Friday afternoon. Over the course of Friday and Saturday, the groups practiced approximately nine hours before performing for a packed auditorium.

The Middle School Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Anthony Maiese, performed five pieces including Siyahamba, an African folk song, and Bashana Haba'ah, by John Leavitt. The High School Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Joseph Stillitano, performed four pieces including Lacrymosa (from "Requiem") by Mozart, and Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Paul Simon/arr. Kirby Shaw. The enthusiastic audience was treated to an impromptu encore of the final song.

Concerts of this high caliber would not be possible without the skill and dedication of our schools' music teachers. This concert was a reflection of the entire Lansing music program from elementary school through middle and high school. The many afternoons of hard work and practice prior to the weekend's gathering showed in this wonderful concert.
