Linda Mizer of Groton received the Girl Scout Honor Pin, given to adults with service to two or more areas. Several volunteers received the Girl Scout Appreciation Pin, honoring outstanding service to Girl Scouting in one or more geographic areas. Appreciation Pins were awarded to Tracey Bachner of Dryden; Cheryl Baker, Susan Durnford, Ruth Howell, and Denise Righetti of Ithaca; Janet Caccia of Newfield; and Sharon Tuttle of Freeville. Nominations are made to the council’s volunteer Adult Awards Task Group.
Maguire served as a leader for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes. She has held several service unit positions including service area manager. Following her extensive responsibilities locally wearing many volunteer hats, Maguire became a member of the council’s nominating committee and a member, then an officer, of its board of directors for several years. She has been chair of the finance committee. She has also served as a national delegate. Most recently, she traveled to Texas to attend realignment training and has been a member of the realignment committee helping in the difficult tasks of bringing five Girl Scout councils together.
Mizer has been a council trainer providing courses to volunteers on many topics and assisting with revisions of many training curriculums. She also spent many years providing leadership to troops in her community, understanding her role as advisor while encouraging the girls to be independent. She has been a communications coordinator and was on the early Women of Excellence event task group. She now is on the Girl Scout Gold Award Committee that guides girls through the process of earning the organization’s highest award for girls.
Bachner is a troop leader and local special events coordinator. She manages her Girl Scout community’s website and her own set of triplets!
Baker has been a troop leader, registrar, program consultant, events coordinator, encampment director, new leader orientation facilitator, school coordinator and volunteer manager for Ithaca/Lansing.
Caccia is a program consultant and encampment director, Durnford is a member of the Girl Scout Gold Award Committee that guides girls earning the organization’s highest girl award.
Howell has served in a variety of positions in her service area, served on committees and continues to provide exceptional programming to the girls in her troop, including a trip to New York City.
Righetti manages the local cookie storage during the Girl Scout Cookie Program and has been a troop leader and manager of the Family Share Campaign. Tuttle has also managed the local Girl Scout Cookie Program and the magazine and book sale.
Girl Scouts - Seven Lakes Council, Inc. serves girls in 13 counties.
