ImageThe Corporate Development Committee of Lansing Central Schools, Inc. funded the purchase of 25 heart rate monitors to be used by the Lansing High School Physical Education Department. The donation was accepted by the Board of Education on February 24th.

The heart rate monitor technology will be used to measure and evaluate students to help them gauge exercise intensity in order to meet their exercise goals. According to Carolyn Ferguson, Physical Education teacher at the High School, the students learn in PE to set their fitness goals based on the FITT principle (Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type of exercise). By having students use heart rate monitors during different activities, they can learn how much work is required to get their heart rate into their training zones in each of the activities.

The Corporate Development Committee (CDC) of Lansing Central Schools, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose sole purpose is to support and further the educational opportunities of Lansing students by providing equipment and technology. It is the aim of the CDC to fund projects that are outside of the district budget and have high impact to as many students as possible.

In October 2008 the CDC presented the Board of Education with a check for $60,000 for an audio/video broadcast center for the Elementary School, a CNC machine and computers for the Technology Program and six interactive whiteboards, from Promethean.

The CDC raises money through its annual auction and dance. This year's event will be held on October 24th at the Lake Watch Inn on East Shore Drive in Lansing.
