ImageITHACA, NY — In coordination with Women’s Expo 2009, Cayuga Radio Group is honoring “20 Outstanding Women You Should Know.”   The 20 women, representing a wide range of backgrounds and careers, will be honored during a ceremony at Women’s Expo 2009 on May 7th at the TC3 Borg Warner Morse Tec Field House.
A call for nominations promoted in January, February, and March on NewsTalk 870 WHCU, Lite Rock 97.3, Q-Country 103.7, Classic Rock I-100, HITS 103.3, and Progressive Talk 1470 WNYY, in Ithaca yielded hundreds of nominations, according to Susan Johnston, General Manager of the six Cayuga Radio Group stations.

“We discovered through our nomination process that there are hundreds of women throughout the Finger Lakes area who deserve the recognition,” Johnston said.  “This was not a popularity contest, but an opportunity to highlight a diverse group of women who are interesting and inspiring.  They represent a sampling of women in our community with different careers, backgrounds, volunteer activities, and family lives.”

Johnston said the names of some of the women are familiar to many in the community, while others serve tirelessly behind the scene for many causes.

The 2009 “20 Outstanding Women You Should Know” include: Dr. Nancy Almann, Joan Barber, Christine Barksdale, Joan Bokaer, Maureen Fessenden, Marcia Fort, Rachel Lampert, Vicki Mosgrove, Patricia Pesoli-Bishop, Kerry Quinn, Karen Ruston, Sandy Schoenfeldt, Maura Stephens, Vicki Taylor, Melissa Thomas-Hunt, Carol Travis, Debbie Underwood, Anne Wingard, Susan Wiser, and Chris Xaver.

They will be honored at Women’s Expo 2009, Thursday May 7, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the TC3 Borg Warner Morse Tec Field House.  Johnston said the community is encouraged to attend the Expo, which is free and open to the public. Attendees will be able to meet the 20 Outstanding Women, interact with 80 vendors, win door prizes, and enjoy free wine and hors d'oeuvres.
