ImageThe Lakewatch Inn was jammed Friday (10/28) night when the Corporate Development Committee of Lansing Central Schools, Inc. (CDC) held its annual auction. "This event has been referred to as a 'prom' for Lansing adults by some members of the community," says Bobbi Wasenko, a CDC member.

The Joe Bruno Band played as guests danced, bid on items, gambled, ate and drank. A ticket got you a program with a number on the back that could be used for bidding on items. Geoff Wright was the auctioneer.

The CDC is a not for profit organization. The group consists of Bill Currie, president, Deb Cretney, Karen Parkes, Debbie Jordan, Shawn Whittaker, Bobbi Wasenko, Skip Hardie, Tom Jones, Ron Colvin, Mark Weidman, Greg Hartz, Robb Cutting, Mary Opperman, John Rodgers, Carolyn Shaw, Janice Strebb, and Jim Bingham. Each member assists with the annual auction/fund raiser. They all participate in collecting donations and planing the event.

This year the downstairs was lined with rows of tables containing nearly 90 donated auction items. Items in the silent auction ranged from clean-ups to sports items to tools and garden items to dentistry to entertainment... just about anything you can imagine was available. Live auction items were larger, including an electric dart machine, a party for any occasion, dinner and stay at La Tourelle, a painting, a stay at the Aurora Inn, a chauffeured wine tour and a spa experience.

Additionally you could buy a balloon for $10.00 that contained something of the same value or more. "Three years ago we added the casino night to 'shake things up a bit' and it was a big hit," adds Ms. Wasenko.

"The money raised is spent on technology related items for the school," explains Ms. Wasenko. "Examples of past purchases are, but not limited to: sewing machines for the middle school. CAD lab for the high school. money donated for the new electronic piano for the middle school, computers, alpha smart writing labs for the elementary school, digital cameras, mobile computer carts for the 3 schools, heart rate monitors and pedometers for the physical education department, ELMO projectors for the elementary school, computers, computer software, printers."
