Lansing Cub Pack 48 and Boy Scouts Troop 48 will be pounding the pavement starting in September as they kick off their annual sale of gourmet popcorn. The sale will last through mid-October. The tasty flavors include cheese, caramel and chocolate covered, as well as several varieties of microwave packets.
Troop 48 Scoutmaster, Roger Garnett, indicated that the popcorn sale helps to finance scouting activities for the area council, as well as their individual local scouting unit. This year, some of the scouts are raising money to attend the National Jamboree in 2010 celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Boys Scouts in North America.
Garnett noted that “this year people can also choose to donate $25 and then $25 worth of popcorn will be sent to U.S. military personnel.”
In addition to developing the boy’s outdoor skills and leadership abilities, Garnett mentioned that the Lansing Boy Scout troop “provides service to the local community, including adopt-a-highway on Route 34B, help with the Lions Club breakfasts, holiday decorating at Woodsedge, and numerous projects such as recently completed Eagle projects at the school and Myers Park.”
