Crystal Motsinger with Eric Hartz
The Lansing Board Of Education took a break last Monday to hold a graduation ceremony for Cayla Congdon and Crystal Motsinger, both of whom finished their high school requirements over the summer.  Superintendent Stephen Grimm and School Board President joined High School Principal Eric Hartz for a short, formal ceremony that celebrated the students' achievement.

"It's a very special time for them," Grimm said.  "It's a special achievement for their family.  We want to recognize that achievement."

Hartz officially recognized both students and certified that they have met the graduation requirements.  He announced that Crystal Motsinger earned her local diploma, and is planning to attend college.  She was a cheerleader at Lansing High School and worked in the workforce as well as in her classes.  Cayla Congdon finished her Regents diploma early by attending summer classes.  She is currently attending Tompkins Cortland Community College.  Each was called forward to receive her diploma, and to be recognized.

"This is a great opportunity," Hartz said.  "Not all students finish in June, whether it's early, or because they need to finish a class or two.  We have both ends of the spectrum here tonight.  Whenever you complete your high school diploma I think you need to be recognized whether it be in the big ceremony in the gym, or here in a board meeting."

The two were surrounded by proud family watching them graduate and snapping pictures.  They were formally awarded their diplomas, and then a break was called in the school board meeting while cake was served.

"This is a great tribute to Lansing's great students," Hartz said.  "The drive, perseverance for students to continue their education, to move through workforce education.  Success comes in many different ways."
