The Lansingville Auxiliary is smaller than the North Lansing Auxiliary, their larger counterpart to the East, but they are quite active. They run their bake sale to raise money for scholarships, and they make quilts for local fire victims, working with the Fire Department to identify recipients. They also assist victims in any way they can, providing food, or money.
Char Wilson and Betty Matyas
The group is led by Betty Fedorka, who was at the bake sale at different times during the day. Tables were set up in the entrance to the fire hall, so voters couldn't help but be tempted. Auxhiliary members backed 37 apple pies plus other donations from members and non-members alike. "Everybody is very supportive," says Char Wilson, who was manning the tables Tuesday morning.
There are several members in the club, including around 12 who are most active. The Auxiliary meets once a month and is trying to attract younger members.
The sale was going well in the morning, with people stopping to buy goodies even if the fire hall was not their polling place. As Jackie Gleason used to say, "How sweet it is!"
