ImageITHACA, NY —  Starting on Saturday, January 23, Sciencenter visitors will have the opportunity to discover a special collection of "Made in Ithaca" exhibits featuring our newest exhibit, “Sonic Sensation”.  Special opening day activities are planned from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 23.

Made in Ithaca celebrates the creative talents of the Sciencenter’s Exhibits Team, which develops high-quality, hands-on exhibitions right here in Ithaca and then travels them to other science centers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

an interactive exhibit that illustrates the shape of a sound wave
with cereal puffs.

Sonic Sensation, the Sciencenter’s newest museum-built exhibition, explores the science of sound and invites visitors to explore how humans hear and discover how well we can listen. The exhibit will leave Ithaca for a countrywide tour in mid-May.

The Sciencenter’s “Made in Ithaca” celebration and Sonic Sensation exhibition features signature favorites like the Scream Chamber, where the willing can yell at the top of their lungs to see just how loud they can be.  Visitors can then make cereal dance in the Seeing Waves or boogey down in the Musical Soundscape.

These Sciencenter-built, hands-on exhibits are sure to get you moving, building and exploring.

Special opening weekend activities and presentations include Dangerous Decibels, where visitors can make a kazoo, see how sound vibrates different materials, and make (and break!) a model of their inner ear!  A special Sciencenter Showtime! Presentation, 'Sonic Seas' will give viewers the chance to eavesdrop on the noisy lives of toadfish with Tine Rubow and Andy Bass of Cornell University.  Visitors will explore the natural history and acoustic world of the toadfish while also visiting with the Sciencenter's own toadfish.

The exhibition and activities are included with museum admission.
