On Tuesday I received an e-mail from Village of Lansing Clerk/Treasurer Jodi Dake that the blessed event had occurred: the turkey that had laid her eggs in a planter that surrounds the Village Office building now had seven poults (baby turkeys). She managed to sneak one away just long enough to take a picture.
By the time I got there with my camera they were hiding, but the mother had moved to a position by the front door where she could intimidate Village residents who came to pay their taxes.
Hoping to get a glimpse of the poults, I came back later in the day, but to no avail. The mother had led her babies across the parking lot to the adjoining stream. I couldn't find the babies, but the mom was resting the bank making turkey noises.
