CDC is made up of Lansing residents who raise money to purchase technology for the schools. They have given more than $100,000 worth of computers, smart boards, networking equipment, and other technology to the Lansing schools over the past ten years. In 2009 CDC donated 20 software licenses for 8th graders to animate stories they write, nine Lego robotic kits, 25 ActiveExpression devices in Lansing High School, and two Interactive Promethean Boards for middle school math and language classes.
This year CDC donated a 'Project Lead The Way' technology lab that will benefit 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in engineering research. That will be the first project in a series of math and science experiences calculated to engage student's interest and excitement about projects that may include engineering, robotics, energy and environmental studies, flight and space, the science behind technology, and the study of electrons. Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics are being added to the Lansing curriculum this year,
The main fundraising event for the CDC is the annual auction and dance. The disco themed dance attracted a record number of auction items that were sold in live and silent auctions. The popular 'singing bowl competition' was repeated this year. Local celebrities each had a bowl in which people could cast votes. At the end of the evening the 'celebrity' with the most votes had to sing with the band. This year's 'celebrities' were Lansing schools' Mary June King, Dan Furguson, Jamie Thomas, Karen Menges, and CDC's Rick page.
