Spirit Week 2005 is said to have broken records, and has caused many emotions.
The winner of both the hall decorating and theme days was the junior class of 2007. Many people have said that this is the first time that the seniors have lost since the year Lansing's own Lucas Hibbard, the middle school music teacher, graduated from high school.
After the pep rally people from all grades started tearing down the hallways they had worked on. Emotions were raging. When asked what how they felt about losing to the juniors, Jahan Raza '(06) and Lizzie Lindberg (06') both shared their frustration. "We're really mad," Raza said.
Lindberg added, "We feel like we got ripped off. I clearly thought ours [hallway] was better. Our class has never come in first." However angry the girls were they both expressed that this would go down in their class's legacy. This would be something special to keep them apart from other classes.
Many other students had entirely different opinions, including one senior. Choosing to respond only if anonymous, she said, "We're used to losing every year so it wasn't really surprising."
"We freaking rock" was the response of Colleen Trowbridge ('07) clearly proud of her class and their spirit. The win was extremely important for the juniors because as sophomores the year before they had come in last place with their supermarket themed hallway and needed to prove that they could do better.
Other students commented that they thought the junior hallway was very well done, even spectacular but that the seniors should have won since this was their last year in high school.
Spirit week 2005 consisted of five different theme days including class color day, country western day, costume or super hero day, dress up day, and finally blue and gold day.
Wednesday marked the beginning of hall decorating. Each class had a unique theme and way of putting their theme to life. The seniors chose the theme of Egypt and built a pyramid for the entrance of their hallway. They also had an air mattress hanging from the ceiling, which looked like a magic carpet.
The juniors chose a theme of Peter pan. They had a clock tower, fish on the wall, a canoe in the middle of the hallway and even something that resembled a hot tub with a miniature sail boat in it.
