Commendation certificates were awarded to the 24 members of the Ithaca High School Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team and their Coach Paul Zarach. They captured the 2011 New York State Championship, completing their season with a 13-1-1 record.
The Tompkins County Human Rights Commission presented 16 ICSD students as winners of its annual Martin Luther King art and poetry contest awards in January. They received ICSD Commendations, too.
Chandler Pfaff won a study trip to Germany by participating in a nationwide German testing program administered by the American Association of Teachers of German.
Forest Tong was acknowledged for outstanding performance on the ACT college admissions and placement exam. He earned the highest composite score possible; less than one-tenth of one percent of all test takers earns the top score.
Ithaca High School Junior Haley Evanoski was selected to perform in the prestigious All- Eastern Honors Chorus Ensemble as Soprano 1, hosted in Baltimore this year, represents the twelve Northeast United States.
Sean Goodman, full-time school psychologist at Ithaca High School, received a Commendation Award for the publication of his award winning, young adult novel, Something Like Hope.
Commendation certificates were presented to the following schools that made New York State Education Department (NYSED)’s list of High Achieving/Gap Closing Schools for 2009-10. “High Performing/Gap Closing” schools and districts have been recognized because they met all applicable State standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and math during the 2009-2010 school year and also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in ELA and math for two consecutive years. ICSD awardees were Belle Sherman Elementary School, Caroline Elementary School, Fall Creek Elementary School, Northeast Elementary School, South Hill Elementary School, and Boynton Middle School.
