Baton Rouge – LSU interior design students Colette DeJean and Ryan Weilenman of Baton Rouge, Leigh Hardy and Alyse Lambert of Lafayette and Sarah Tull of Lansing, N.Y., recently took home first place in the 2010 Interior Design Educators Council, or IDEC, Interior Design Education Video Competition. The winners were announced during the recent IDEC Annual Conference March 16-19 in Denver. “It feels great to be part of a program that can compete, and win, on an international level,” said faculty advisor Danielle Johnson, who said she was thrilled to hear that LSU design students had taken the top prize.
The LSU team’s winning video, 'Interior Design & Healthcare,' incorporates stunning visuals with soothing music to educate viewers on the seven stage interior design process which involves inspiration, identification, exploration, conceptualization, definition and modeling, communication and collaboration and production Judges commented that the LSU group’s video was 'very relevant, imaginative, informative,' and an 'on-target explanation of how professional interior design impacts healthcare.'
DeJean described the IDEC Video Competition as a unique and valuable experience offering LSU students the opportunity to compete with design students around the globe.
'"We are honored to have had our piece chosen as the winning video," DeJean said. "It's very rewarding to be recognized for all of our hard work, especially considering the steep level of competition. We are so glad to have had the opportunity to educate the public about the interior design profession."
IDEC partnered with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification, or NCIDQ; Council for Interior Design Accreditation, or CIDA; American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers, or AAHID; and Interiors & Sources magazine to host the competition. More than 25 videos were submitted for consideration by a panel of judges from the four agencies.
Winning videos received cash prizes along with recognition in an issue of Interiors & Sources magazine and on sponsoring organizations’ websites. The Interior Design Educators Council is an international organization with the mission of advancing interior design education, scholarship and service. Founded in 1963, IDEC has more than 750 members.
