Through service-oriented cycling trips, Bike & Build benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement. Over the past 8 seasons, Bike and Build participants have donated more than $2.7MM; built for more than 80,000 hours; pedaled over 5MM miles; and engaged more than 1250 young adults in spreading the word about the affordable housing crisis in America.
The cyclists began their 3,971 mile trip on June 13th from Providence, Rhode Island. They will travel through 15 states and end their journey in Seattle, Washington. Riders in the group hail from 21 states and 30 different universities from across the country.
In addition to logging thousands of miles in the name of affordable housing, each participant also raises at least $4,000 before their ride begins. A portion of those funds is used to cover trip expenses but the majority is donated to affordable housing projects, like Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with low-income families around the world. Locally, Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties is building three homes this year.
