The Ithaca YMCA announced that the 19th Annual YMCA-Kionix Kids to Camp Golf Outing raised over $35,000 for kids in Tompkins County. The event, held on June 13, has grown substantially over time and now features over 160 golfers from all corners of the country. Its purpose is to raise funds for the YMCA’s financial assistance program that supports many local children who would like to attend the Y’s summer camp, Camp Adventure, but whose families cannot meet the program’s full cost.
Kionix has proven to be an exceptional ally in the Y's continuing effort to provide scholarships to these young people and, once again, generously took the lead in sponsoring this event. This was the perfect opportunity for both corporations and individuals alike to make significant contributions to the outing, enabling the Y to continue to provide scholarships to the greatest number of campers possible.
This year, the golf outing was held at the two premier courses in Tompkins County: Cornell’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course and the Country Club of Ithaca [CCI]. Lunch was provided at both clubhouses, and a 1:00 pm shotgun start launched the event. The outing followed the captain/crew scramble format, which made play faster and more efficient. A silent auction was also held throughout the day to raise additional funds for the program. After play was complete, everyone enjoyed a full complement of hors d’oeuvres while the Y staff presented gifts (donated by area businesses) to all players and golf awards to those who distinguished themselves with exceptional play, thus ending a day of all-around fun.
This opportunity to play the best courses in town while supporting a 152-year tradition of providing camp experiences for children in Tompkins County will continue next year.
