fdaddtn_120Lansing Fire Commissioner Jeff Walters reports that all is going well on a $2.3 million 7,300 square foot addition to Central Fire Station.  A new construction schedule targets the end of December for the completion of the project.  The project includes a new equipment bay, a boarder facility, a decontamination room,  and emergency medical storage.

"Everything for Central Station is on the new schedule,"Walters says.  "They don't see any problems at this time.  Nobody sees anything that will slow it down, so we're hoping it will go smoothly."

Walters reports that construction has not hampered normal operations in the fire station.  Communication between the fire department and contractors has been good, and construction is not interfering with access for emergency equipment and personnel.  When builders are ready to join the addition to the old equipment bay Walters says local cuts through the existing wall will not be in the way of emergency response activity.

The new schedule calls for the new structure to be roofed and enclosed by the end of August.  That will allow builders to work inside as the weather changes.  Walters says that the contractor estimates the project will be complete by the end of this year.
