Before joining Wells College, Burrall was an insurance producer at C.S. Burrall & Son, Inc. in Geneva, N.Y. for 10 years. In this position he cultivated prospects through target marketing and relationship management, increased the agency’s written premium and policies-in-force count each year, and developed and maintained over 100 specialty niche market clients. Prior to his insurance career, Burrall successfully launched and operated a start-up outdoor recreation business, Terrapin Outfitters, which established itself as a profitable, cutting-edge company in Watkins Glen, N.Y. for nearly 10 years.
“His skills in sales and marketing, prospect development and stewardship are immediately transferrable,” says Michael McGreevey, vice president for advancement. “Hal also has an implicit understanding of a small, liberal arts education – and of Wells in particular, as his mother was an alumna.”
Helen Boynton Burrall, Burrall’s mother, earned a B.A. in Spanish-romance language from Wells College in 1947. She played field hockey and basketball, as well as coached basketball her junior and senior years, and she was the class secretary for five years.
“My mother’s devotion to Wells was a major influence for me in joining the Advancement team here,” says Burrall. “Through her I’ve always felt a connection to the College.” For several years Helen was a member of the Geneva Historical Society, where Burrall has been serving on the board of trustees as the fund raising and development committee chair since 2009.
Burrall received his B.S. in business administration with an English minor from the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore School of Business and Economics. He is a past board president of the Geneva Family YMCA and is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, St. Peter’s Church, and the Hydrant Hose Fire Company. Burrall lives in Geneva, N.Y. with his wife, Kristen, and their four children.
