The gift allows IYB’s Recreation Support Services to hire two one-to-one aides to allow children with disabilities to attend summer camp. The donation also supports the IYB’s ECHO Scholarship Fund, which increases available financial assistance for summer camp and other IYB programs, as well as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Ithaca Youth Council, Paul Schreurs Memorial Program, Youth Employment Services, College Discovery Program, Computer All-Stars, and the Outing Program.
FIYB is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The $12,000 donation was made possible by its fundraising efforts, including the 'Sponsor a Smile' community appeal; proceeds from the Sampling Ithaca event at Cornell University, sponsored by Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and Students for Education Reform; designated gifts from individuals, families, businesses, and foundations; and a grant from The Service League.
FIYB Chair Jeff Love presented the $12,000 donation to IYB Executive Director Allen Green who stated, “This support from the Friends comes at a time when the demand for services is at its highest, with families looking for camp assistance and youth employment services. The Ithaca Youth Bureau is grateful for the donation, which will help us to provide quality programming for nearly 7,500 young people served annually.”
Formed in 2010, FIYB promotes positive, engaging opportunities for area youth by raising community awareness of and building financial support for the services and programs of the Ithaca Youth Bureau. The Friends has donated nearly $20,000 to the youth bureau over the last two years.
