The first graduating class of New Roots Charter High School commencement was held Saturday at the State Theatre in Ithaca. The ceremony included speakers from among students, faculty, and parents, and even featured Principal Tina Nilsen-Hodges singing Ruth Moody's 'One Voice' -- then joined by students, faculty, and the whole assembly.Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick was the keynote speaker (see videos below for his speech). Seniors passed the flame to next year's senior class. A slide show included then and now pictures of the graduates, showing baby photos as well asmore recent shots. 27 seniors graduated, most of whom will be attending college next year. The ceremony was especially unique in that it established traditions for commencements to come.
