SPCA Seeks Information on Abandoned Kittens
Three-Week Old Kittens Left to Die in Caroline
The Tompkins County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is seeking information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for abandoning a litter of three-week old kittens in a tightly sealed cardboard box on Thursday June 30 along Shindagin Hollow Road in the Town of Caroline. The kittens were discovered around noon in the 90 degree heat by a Caroline highway department worker who immediately rushed them to the SPCA.
Six of the kittens in the box were approximately three weeks old and were dehydrated and close to death upon arrival. An older, seventh kitten also left in the box is approximately three months old and is suffering from a broken leg. All seven kittens are now doing well with treatment, and all are expected to survive.
The TC SPCA is offering $500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator. Anybody with any information should telephone Officer Brashear at 257-1822 ext. 229. Information may be provided anonymously.
Animal abandonment in New York State carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count.
