y120In order to strengthen the financial support and provide a more welcoming 'Open Door' scholarship program, the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County is kicking off its annual campaign which provides funding for memberships and programs for those who cannot otherwise afford these fees.  As a result, youth, adults and families receive the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being of mind, body, and spirit.

“Our Y is a nonprofit 501(c)3 charity organization that in the previous year provided financial aid to over 2,000 children and families at a value of $117,000.  This is why we are determined to raise the money necessary to support our mission”, comments Frank Towner, CEO.

The campaign kicks off on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County, 50 Graham Road west.  There will be fresh fruit, healthy drinks, and a greeting from Towner, beginning at 6:00 a.m.  YMCA annual campaign chairperson, Jackie Bangs, holds the lead volunteer position for the third year in a row.  Bangs has seen increased support from the community each year she has chaired.

“This year’s goal is $95,000, which will help us meet the needs of our 'Open Doors' program," she says.  "By attaining our goal, we will be able to continue our annual fundraising events like the Annual YMCA Kionix Golf Outing, the Tri for the Y Triathlon, the Pizzapollooza pizza contest, and the Scarecrow Scamper and 5K for children and adults.”
