cayugaradiogroupNews / Talk 870AM, 95.9FM WHCU welcomes the return of Greg Fry to the Ithaca market as the News Director of the legendary radio station.

Fry returns to Ithaca after previously serving as Assistant News Director for Cayuga Radio Group in 2007 and 2008. Greg brings nine years of radio news experience to the position.

“We are proud to have Greg return to Ithaca and head up our news department,” said Chris Allinger, Operations Manager for the Cayuga Radio Group.  “He is versed on all aspects of news operations, the market, and is a solid fit to our growing news team”.

Fry has covered many of the state’s biggest stories in recent years, from the resignation of then-Governor Eliot Spitzer in 2008 to the corruption trial of State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno. In 2009, Greg received a Murrow Award for team coverage of a December 2008 ice storm that knocked out power to more than 250,000 people throughout the Capital Region of New York and beyond.

“I am proud to welcome Greg back.  He is wonderfully suited for this position.  His strong work ethic and his depth in the news profession make him the ideal candidate to continue take WHCU to new heights in listeners, coverage, and community,”  said Vice President/General Manager Chet Osadchey.

Fry worked at news stations in Albany and Pennsylvania, after leaving Ithaca in 2008 and replaces news Director Geoff Dunn who retired from WHCU in December.
