fdb_120The Ramada Inn was filled with emergency responders Saturday when the Lansing Fire Department held its annual banquet to celebrate its members and honor those who have served above and beyond the call of duty.  In 2012 the department responded to 416 emergency fire calls and 425 EMS calls for a total of 841 calls.  The Lansing department provided assistance to neighboring fire departments 41 times last year, and received assistance on 21 calls.

Representatives from neighboring fire departments and local officials attended the banquet, which provided a chance for department members to relax on one night for dinner and dancing.  Neighboring departments covered emergency calls for the evening.

Officers were sworn in at the beginning of the awards ceremony.  Officers are elected by the volunteer department each year.  This year's officers are Chief Scott Purcell, Deputy Chief Brad George, 1st Assistant Chief Dennis Griffin, 2nd Assistant Chief Mike Drake, 3rd Assistant Chief James Spencer, Captain Tom Smith, 1st Lieutenant Jason Berga, 3rd Lieutenant Joe Lisi, 4th Lieutenant Dan Pine.

In 2012 the top 5 responders were Kim Sweeney, who responded to 133 calls, Darren Sill with 134, Alex Shehu with 136, Marianio Garcia with 138, and the top responder for the year was Larry Creighton, responding to 143.  The Chiefs Award ( for people that go above and beyond the call of duty) went to Haman Anand, Jason Berga, Larry Creighton, Mariano Garcia,  Kayleen Miller, Alex Shehu, Darren Sill, Tom Sill, Tom Smith, and Kim Sweeney.

Rookie Of The Year was Nelson Golden.  The Presidents Award went to Tonya Reynolds.  The 2012 Commissioners award was presented to Jeff Walters.

The Joe 'Ditty' Joseph award went Tom Dorward.  The EMS Responder of the year was Haman Anand.  The Service and Dedication awards went to Tom Sill and Kayleen Miller.  Kim Sweeney was recognized for her years of dedication and Service as EMS Administrator.  Training awards went to Joe Lisi for outside training and Kim Sweeney for Department training.

Don Simons, Jeff Simons, Lisa Smith, Brint Genzler, and Joe Lisi were recognized for one year of service.  Haman Anand and Cathy Wagner were recognized for 5 years in the department, Rich Niemi for 10 years, and Candi Griffin and Brad George for serving 20 years.
