Coffee shops have come and gone in Lansing.  The Town of Lansing plans a new one, at least for the summer months.  Well, more of a coffee tent than a shop.  Town Supervisor Kathy Miller says the Town will sell coffee at the Lansing Farmer's Market this year.  This will be coffee with a municipal twist.  Miller says people will be able to get their questions answered while downing an inexpensive cup of joe.

"Fifty cents," Miller says.  "It will be good coffee, though.  We'll sit and answer questions about anything, whether it's the sewer or any other committees.  We'll put a round table there because people will sit down with a cup of coffee and ask questions in an informal atmosphere."

The coffee booth's purpose is threefold.  With sewer, town center, a possible state forest, fracking and sign moratoriums and a plethora of other issues on the township's table, the booth will provide an informal way for Lansingites to get their questions answered.  It will provide what Town Councilwoman Ruth Hopkins calls an excuse for people to sit down and socialize.  And Miller hopes that food booths will increase attendance at the Farmer's Market.

"When you go to the Farmer's Market downtown sometimes you come away with no vegetables," Miller said.  "But I've had breakfast, I've had coffee, I'm taking home a cookie, all of these things.  But there's nothing to eat at our Farmer's Market and there's no coffee.  I believe if we get some food vendors we'll get more people."

The Lansing Farmer's Market typically runs from some time in June through October.
