meetaHigh School Student Awarded HOBY Honor

Meeta Shrivastava is the 2013 winner of the HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership)Award.  The vision for HOBY is to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership.

The core values of HOBY are volunteerism, excellence, organizational integrity, diversity, innovative thinking, community partnering, and lifelong learning leadership opportunities.

Meeta has been invited to represent Lansing High School and attend a leadership seminar the weekend of May 31-June 2, 2013 at SUNY Oswego.

Meeta’s essay was selected from several essays submitted by sophomores at Lansing High School.

Shakespearean Experience on for Lansing Youth

Sophomore Scott Williamson won the 2013 Shakespeare Competition offered recently at Lansing High School. Scott was one of four students who competed at the local level of the ‘National Shakespeare Competition’ sponsored by the English Speaking Union.  Scott next offers his recitation of a sonnet and twenty lines of a passage from a Shakespearean play at the Regional Competition on Saturday, March 2nd at Syracuse’s Storch Theatre.

Other students who competed in this competition included runner up Arin Caveney along with Rachel Hulburt and Sophia Pitti-Daly.  Judges for Lansing’s competition included Ms. Julia Berens, Mrs. June Martin, and Miss Mary Beth Whittaker.
