chubbers “Hey there! My name is Chubbers and I am super stoked to meet you! I love everyone and just want to hang out and play all day long. Since I am very loyal, I would be happiest in a home with someone who either worked from home or was retired. I love to cuddle, and play with my human. I am okay when I meet dogs out in public, but I would much prefer to be the only dog in the home. I'm an older boy and do have some allergies, but I still have lots of love to give. Plus, I am already housebroken! If I sound like a nice friend for you, come in and say hello!

posticon Boxing Training in Lansing Will Help Parkinson's Symptoms

Rock Steady BoxingParkinson's Disease is a progressive nervous system disorder.  It begins with tremors, then spreads to include stiffness, slowing movement, slurred, softer speech and degrading balance.  There is no cure for Parkinson's, but studies have shown that certain exercises can slow it down and mitigate the symptoms.  In Lansing Caroline Brown and Debbie Bosanko are helping Parkinson's sufferers to literally fight the symptoms with a unique boxing training program specifically designed for Parkinson's patients.

"Last year I saw a clip on CBS Morning News with Leslie Stahl," Brown says.  "Her husband has Parkinson's.  He has been involved with Rock Steady Boxing in New York City.  I saw it and was so inspired by it — it was exciting.  I didn’t know anyone with Parkinson’s at that time, but it was very inspiring.  I was starting to look at organizations to contribute money to, and looking at their record.  If I put my money toward bringing Rock Steady Boxing here I knew I was going to make a difference."

Lansing Ag DayLansing Ag Day is set for two weeks from now.  The new event will focus on the town's 40 farm businesses that account for over $20 million in annual revenues, about a third of the Town's land area, and 100 jobs.  Lansing Agriculture Committee Chair Connie Wilcox reported to the Town Board last week that the event will include small farm animals, tractors and machinery, and a wealth of activities and displays at the Town Hall campus on October 15th.

"Some history will be involved, but the day will focus more on current Ag activity in the town," Wilcox said.  "The farmers they are enthusiastic about it.  Promoting agriculture in this area is really important.  It’s the roots of this town."

dearmargaretDear Margaret: My wife of just over a year is extremely shy and a real homebody.  She's my best friend and I feel fortunate to have her in my life. I love to socialize and it's hard for me to get her to attend events and parties. I'm feeling stifled. She does have a few close girlfriends she feels comfortable with. How can I to strike a balance where she can feel secure in attending functions with me so I can get much needed socialization? I don't feel good about going out without her.

Within reach It is just dawn with the morning's light just beginning to steal through the window shades. Warm and comfortable under your down comforter your eyes crack open just slightly. The fresh smell of the fire coming from the living room let you know that the fire boy has been there, quiet as a whisper, getting your cabin warm to start the morning.

There is nothing quite as nice as a toasty cabin on a cool summer morning. The children wake almost as slowly as you. No chores this week. You're at The Waldheim. One of the 'Great Camps' of the Adirondacks.

museumoftheearthThe Museum of Earth at the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) has been awarded $137,419 in federal grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) as part of the Museums for America program. The Museum of the Earth was awarded the funds to create Daring to Dig: Women in American Paleontology, a traveling exhibition highlighting how the contributions of women have shaped the field.

"We are thrilled that IMLS has chosen to fund our project about the contributions of women to the field of paleontology" said Beth Stricker, PRI Director of Exhibitions. "Despite facing many challenges, these women have advanced both practical and academic aspects of the science. Viewed as a whole, their stories will inspire young women interested in STEM fields, and will document a series of important but underappreciated chapters in American history."

trigger        Hi! I'm Trigger and I am a very friendly boy! You may have noticed that I am missing one of my legs. To be honest, I have barely noticed at all! I still love to play, walk, and go on fun adventures outside! I'm full of cuddles and good times - it would be impossible not to laugh every day when I'm around! I love everyone I meet, but would do best with sturdy children since I'm so tall and clumsy. At nine months old, I'm really still a puppy and have some more to learn. I'm a smart boy though and I will happily learn things in exchange for something delicious! If I sound like the handsome man for you, please contact my foster mom Maggie: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to set up a meet. I can't wait to meet you!

posticon Where Have All The Trees Gone?

Triphammer ApartmentsWhen it became clear that close to thirty trees were marked for removal at Triphammer Apartments, LLC (formerly Chateau Claire Apartments), residents were concerned.  Some called local newspapers, some called Tompkins County Legislator Dooley Kiefer, and some called the Village of Lansing.  The next day the trees, mostly willows, started coming down.

"The trees (many mature willows) distinguished this older apartment complex in the Village of Lansing from all the others in the county,” Kiefer said.

posticon Dear Margaret - Dear Frustrated Queen of My Castle

dearmargaretDear Margaret: I live in a modest home, and while my possessions are not monetarily valuable, they are my treasures and my home is my castle. I’m single and don’t have children. My problem is when friends with children come to visit, they allow their kids free reign of my house. They run around, play with my possessions like they are toys, and generally make a mess of my house. The parents seem unperturbed by all of this and say nothing about the misbehavior. How can I address this issue? I don’t want to insult my friends, but I don’t want their children destroying my house!
