It is rare for a small business to to last 30 years, but December 2013 marks her anniversary. Given the changes in the economy and the shift from bricks and mortar to online sales, Micky Roof has persevered by continuing to make beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry. She is also deeply community minded and participates in the annual Aids Ride for Life and Women Swimmin’ fundraisers.
Roof was introduced to the art of jewelry-making by her high school art teacher, Edward Hoops, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She earned a B.S. in Art Education from Mansfield State College in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, where she majored in jewelry design and fabrication; she took workshops with Stanley Lecthin from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, trained at the Cheltenham Art Center in Philadelphia, and studied hollowware construction with Hans Christianson of the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her work has been shown in several important galleries in the United States, and is collected by clients worldwide.
Micky Roof specializes in custom design and mesmerizing one-of-a-kind creations. Her trademark talent is an innate ability to match breathtaking gemstones with complementary metals — adding textures and details that translate her passion for nature and its principle elements and universal rhythms. Over the years, Micky has grown from a one-person studio to a full-service jewelry store and gem gallery... this atelier, The Jewelbox, is located on the Cayuga Lake Waterfront in Ithaca, New York.
