The Ithaca/Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced Sunday the details of the 8th annual Winter Recess 'Teachers Week,' a festival that takes place from Feb. 14-23 at locations throughout Ithaca and Tompkins County. The event draws more than 5,000 school employees and their families to Ithaca and the Finger Lakes region during the President’s Week school break and offers a community-wide calendar of special events, retail incentives, dining promotions and lodging deals exclusively for educators.
“From its inception, Winter Recess has proven to be a fantastic event for educators to travel to Ithaca during a traditionally slow time for tourism in upstate New York,” said Bruce Stoff, Director, Ithaca CVB. “This community is rooted in education – to celebrate teachers in Ithaca during their break is both a thank you, and an opportunity to stimulate local business.”
In 2013, Winter Recess generated more than 300 overnight hotel stays and injected an estimated $500,000 into the local economy. Organizers expect the 2014 event to be even more successful.
Winter Recess is free to pre-k to 12 teachers, district employees and their families.
