Construction has begun on Tompkins Financial Corporation's new headquarters building in downtown Ithaca.
Upon completion in early 2018, the 110,000 square-foot, seven-story building will consolidate over 300 employees who currently occupy seven buildings in the Ithaca area. The new facility will feature customer parking at ground level, a retail branch and ATM located on the first floor, and will allow customers access to banking and lending services, Tompkins Financial Advisors, and Tompkins Insurance Agencies all in one building.
"As an organization, we've always been committed to the communities we serve," said Steve Romaine, president and CEO of Tompkins Financial Corporation at a press event last Friday. "This building is representative of our commitment to downtown Ithaca, to our employees, and to our customers."
The new building will occupy the site at 118 East Seneca Street, which is owned by Tompkins Financial Corp. The Tompkins Trust Company drive-in branch, that has been on that site for many years, is being re-located across the street to 119 E Seneca Street. It is expected to open in September. The bank, currently celebrating 180 years, will continue serving customers at its other nine locations and 18 ATMs in the Ithaca area while the new drive-in facility is being built.
Tompkins Financial Corp. pledged a donation of several trees to the City of Ithaca as part of their commitment to add green to the City.
"When we have a business like this that makes the intentional choice to stay in the downtown area…they are demonstrating a partnership and collaboration with the City that is extremely important, and we're very thankful to the Trust Company for staying downtown, and for these beautiful trees," said Deb Mohlenhoff, acting mayor of the City of Ithaca.
