Ithaca CommonsThe Ithaca Downtown Partnership announced today that it is changing its name to the Downtown Ithaca Alliance. The change takes effect immediately. Downtown Ithaca Alliance Executive Director Gary Ferguson says, ‘After ten years of operations as the Ithaca Downtown Partnership we were informed by New York State that it wanted us to seek a different name, because the word partnership has legal as well as colloquial meanings.'
The name change to the Downtown Ithaca Alliance was approved by the Board of Directors of the Downtown Ithaca Business Improvement District yesterday. The B.I.D. board is responsible for setting policy and overseeing fiduciary obligations for the Downtown Ithaca Alliance.
According to Ferguson, ‘The word alliance connotes partnering and the collaborative aspects of community building that are so important... both to us and to our efforts to build a strong and vibrant downtown.'
While the name change to the Downtown Ithaca Alliance takes effect immediately, the conversion will occur over the next several months.
