The Schlather, Stumbar, Parks and Salk team garnered 999.5 points and claimed first place in the team competition, while the “color coded” team from Miller Mayer scored 957 points, to take the runner-up position. Third place went to the “green and gray” team from Miller Mayer, with 949.5 points, while the Cornell University Donor Relations team took home fourth place with 917.75 points.
The Downtown Ithaca Office Worker Olympics are also about individual competition, and the 2009 Individual Champion is Melissa Skodzinski of Schlather, Stumbar, Parks and Salk with 1,327 points. The runner-up was Marissa Butts of the Miller Mayer LLP “green and gray’ team, with 1,195 points. Nick Hinrichsen from the Miller Mayer “color coded” team placed third with 1,141 points and Jeff Walker of Schlather, Stumbar, Parks and Salk placed fourth with 1,111 points.
The first place winners in both categories receive plaques and Downtown Dollars for their efforts.
Downtown Ithaca’s Office Worker Olympics are part of Office Worker Appreciation Week, which is produced by the Downtown Ithaca Alliance.
The 2009 Olympics featured such events as the Mouse-Pad Discus, Shoot the Rubber Band at the Target, Paperwad Trashcan Toss, the Water-Cooler Relay, Speedy Mail and File Sorting Competition, and other grueling tests of strength, endurance, stamina and character.
The Hot Dog Eating Competition also returned to Office Worker Appreciation Week this year. Lucas McCarthy ate 6 dogs in two minutes to win this year’s competition. Second place went to Chris Buck, who ate 5 dogs in two minutes and Brett Bossard placed third, eating 4 hot dogs in the allotted time.
McCarthy received a gift certificate for 20 free hot dogs from Lou Cassaniti of Commons Barbeque, who provided the hot dogs for the competition, free of charge.
The 2009 Downtown Ithaca Office Worker Olympics Team Spirit award was presented to Miller Mayer LLP.
