WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in Western New York, Central New York, including Rochester, and Northwestern Pennsylvania, announced today that as part of its review process of the acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffics assets, the P&C store located at 212 Hancock Street in Ithaca, NY will close on April 18.
Among several criteria used in the evaluation process have been economic viability, current store condition, and the ability for the store to successfully compete in the marketplace. Management and UFCW Local One will be working together over the next few days to address issues including re-employment.
Tops Markets announced on Jan. 29 that it had completed the bankruptcy court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets, including 79 supermarkets over a four-state area. Tops continues to evaluate all stores in seeking the best possible outcome for the remaining locations. An FTC review of all locations is also pending.
