ImageEffective April 6 2010, the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport will be adding an extra regional jet to Detroit. The new flight, departing at 12:15 pm, will complement the existing 6:30 am and 4:36 pm departures, in many cases giving shorter holdover times for connecting flights out of Detroit.

Announcing the new flight, Airport Manager Bob Nicholas said "Ever since we began flights to Detroit in May 2005 we have been testing the aircraft's capacity. Delta, formerly Northwest, began operations with 34-seat turbo props, switched one of those operations to a 50-seat regional jet and soon after that switched the second flight to a regional jet. With each change, we have pretty much filled the aircraft and I have no doubt it will be the same thing with the third flight."

Nicholas also stated that a new proposal submitted to the Department of Transportation by US Airways and Delta would still allow the new non-stop air service between Ithaca and Washington-National to go through, although it is not expected to occur until later in the year.
