At the event, members enjoyed appetizers, drinks, and good company, and began to look ahead. The group has committed to pursue balanced ecological, social, and financial success, through an approach known as the “triple bottom line.” The SEEN will provide a platform for members to explore these principles and learn how to put them into practice within their own business or organization.
“Sustainability can be such a complex and evolving concept. Larger companies hire full-time directors and staff to stay on top of it,” says SEEN charter member, Abbie Webb. “Fortunately business owners in the Ithaca area have a lot of knowledge, and the SEEN helps us share and benefit from each others’ expertise.”
Webb serves on the Board of the Green Resource Hub, a local non-profit organization committed to expanding the marketplace for sustainable living. The Hub conceived of and developed the SEEN as one of its many programs.
In the coming months, SEEN members will have access to monthly networking events and sustainability lectures featuring speakers from within and outside of the group’s membership. Members will be featured on the network’s website, which is already under development. Programming, shared marketing, and the group’s web presence will be coordinated by paid staff.
