Finger Lakes ReUse received a grant for its eCenter program from the Helen Thomas Howland Foundation as administered by the Community Foundation of Tompkins County to support the Technology Apprenticeship and Leadership Program (TALP). Local high school students acquire communication, leadership and technical job skills as they complete a 10-week course working side-by-side with expert technicians. As students complete each week’s activities, they refurbish computers and reduce electronic waste generation.
This grant recognizes Finger Lakes ReUse commitment to multiple priority areas by combining goals in the Helen Thomas Howland Foundation’s youth and environment priorities. Development of the TALP course was funded by a 2010 grant from the Social Service League of Tompkins County, and it was designed in partnership with the Ithaca Youth Bureau’s Computer All Stars program.
