Julie Crowley and her father Robert Crowley announced the 71st Anniversary of their local, family run Triphammer Wines & Spirits.   The anniversary was last weekend with store-wide wine tastings catered by Kilpatrick’s Publick House.

“I’m proud to be part of a family-run business that has survived the test of time.   My grandparents started Crowley’s Liquor Store in 1941 on South Cayuga St.  My father took over in the 60’s and moved the store to the brand new Triphammer Mall. I joined my father in 2002, and later that year we moved the store to our current location. That was 10 years ago this year,” said Julie Crowley, President of Triphammer Wines & Spirits.

Interest in wine has grown exponentially with the business.  In the 1960’s Bob had a hard time convincing the salesmen to sell him wine.  Liquor stores were much more focused on spirits.  Today is a very different story.

“This is an exceptional wine market.  Our customers come to tastings to learn more about wines and different wine regions,” said Crowley. “This year we built a new wine-tasting bar to accommodate our popular wine tastings.”

"We are proud to support the growing wine region of the Finger Lakes and always welcome new wineries. In the past few years we have visited a couple dozen local wineries, and we present a different winery every month as our Winery Of The Month. We make sure to give our customers an opportunity to taste the wonderful local wines,” she added.

In the spirit that created Crowley’s Liquor in 1941, Julie opened Ithaca Coffee Company in 2004.  Located next to Triphammer Wines & Spirits, Ithaca Coffee Company is a 3,500 square foot specialty foods store, and they roast their own coffee.

“The concept of Ithaca Coffee Company seemed like a perfect compliment to Triphammer Wines & Spirits.  We carry a variety of cheese, which we pair with the wines during tastings.  We also have a large selection of beer. In February we opened our Tavern in the Triphammer location serving beer, wine and hosting weekly beer tastings. Our 2nd location of Ithaca Coffee Company is located on the Gateway Commons in downtown Ithaca ” said Crowley. “We believe in Big City Feel, Small Town Friendly Service and strive to give our customers the best variety and best shopping experience possible.”
