Math and Movement and Mathnasium have partnered for summer and after-school learning. “During the summer, many students lose 2 to 2.5 months of the math computational skills they learned during the school year.” Washington Post, June 15, 2009

Mathnasium and Math & Movement have joined forces to bring students an innovative curriculum that allows for math-movement breaks! Math & Movement combines physical fitness with learning and practicing math, reading and other concepts.

Mathnasium will host the Summer Math kick-off party on June 27th, 5:30-7pm. Parents and children will have the opportunity to play math games, sign up for the raffle, win prizes and jump on the Math & Movement floor mats. Students can solve math problems by jumping to the answer!

Mathnasium Learning Center of Ithaca is the only learning center of its kind in Tompkins County with highly specialized math instructors teaching math to make sense to each student. Students attend once or twice a week, for about an hour each session. Like at a gym or health club, members can attend at their convenience on an unlimited basis each month. Our goal is to significantly boost your child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance, while building confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.

At a time when there are 12 million obese children, physical fitness has become a matter of national urgency. As U.S. Senator Chris Dobb has said, “All of us—parents, schools, government, employers—need to see the rising childhood obesity rates for what they are: a medical emergency.” Now Math and Movement and Mathnasium promote physical activity while simultaneously increasing learning.  The end result: physically fit children and increased test scores.
