islRadio station 98.7 FM “The Vine” recently launched a new business initiative titled “Ithaca Shops Local” that kicks off officially this week.

“This is a comprehensive campaign that encourages a complete ‘purchase cycle’-from listener to consumer to local retailer/owner and back to consumer” said Cayuga Radio Group (parent company of 98.7 The Vine) VP/GM Chet Osadchey.  “Spending money with local businesses results in a greater percentage of money back to our community, which in turn re-circulates at a greater level, thereby keeping our economy healthy and humming.”

“98.7 The Vine is a radio station that is exclusively programmed, marketed and targeted to Ithaca.  It is a ‘community’ radio station in the purest form.  It only stands to reason that we believe 100% in locally sourced advertising and support, and expressing that commitment from local listener to local business owner.” Said Aaron Terkel, Program Director at 98.7 The Vine.

Consumers can see a list of participating businesses at the website and better understand the “cycle of a healthy economy” that the initiative is based upon.

Eligible businesses can sign up on the site as well. A listing is free, and additional options are available on a customized basis.  Businesses receive window stickers for their business and the radio station runs promotional ads encouraging listeners to look for businesses carrying the “Ithaca Shops Local” stickers.

“We firmly believe that a healthy local economy is predicated a cohesive and synergistic relationship between local consumers and local businesses.  Consumers need to be educated on the importance of our local businesses,” Said Osadchey, “From dairy farms to sporting goods stores-these businesses are critical to our economic health.  They spend their profits right back in our community.”
