wells_splitkniuckleThe Wells College Arts and Lecture Series welcomes the Split Knuckle Theatre Company for a performance of their innovative production “Endurance.” The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 21, in Phipps Auditorium of Macmillan Hall on the Wells College campus. Admission is free, and all are cordially invited to attend.

Trapped in Antarctica with no hope of rescue, the British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton kept 27 men alive for two years in the most inhospitable climate on earth. “Endurance” recreates this story 95 years later through the experiences of Hartford insurance man Walter Spivey, as he struggles to justify his recent promotion and save his employees’ jobs in the worst economic meltdown since the Great Depression. The office of four, led by Spivey, attempts to draw inspiration from one of the greatest leaders in human history and survive the ravages of the corporate world.

Split Knuckle is a critically-acclaimed company that creates dynamic, visually-striking theatre from simple materials, resulting in vivid characters and imaginative productions. The company actively develops innovative theatre pieces and performs, directs, teaches and leads workshops in the United States, United Kingdom, Argentina and other communities around the globe. Split Knuckle practices devised theatre, an unpredictable, experimental creative process gaining recognition in the field of performing arts.

The members of Split Knuckle Theatre Company trained at the London International School of Performing Arts in the methods of Jacques Lecoq; and they bring individual experiences from Shakespeare & Company, MFA acting programs across the country and many years of professional performance.

The Wells College Arts and Lecture Series brings a range of artists and intellectuals to campus to perform, to speak on relevant issues, and to represent the disciplines of theatre, music and dance. A committee composed of Wells faculty, staff and students selects groups and individuals for each season. Split Knuckle Theatre is the second Arts and Lecture Series event of this season.
