sc sign175Something 'strange' is coming to the Sciencenter! Uncover the surprising science behind everyday stuff and get a glimpse of where materials research might take us when 'Strange Matter' materializes on May 23.

Guests of all ages can investigate the structure of materials and their intriguing and remarkable properties in this exhibition filled with hands-on technologies and interactive experiences. 'Strange Matter' captures advanced materials used in high-tech fields such as the space program and cardiac surgery and reveals them in more common places, from the shoes that you wear and the dishes you eat off of to the DVDs you watch and the bike or skateboard you ride.

Upon entering this fascinating, practical and occasionally bizarre world of materials science, guests will encounter more than a dozen hands-on experiences. Investigate how scientists control structure and defects to create special properties in everyday items. Experiment with amorphous metal structures and discover how they’re shaping the future of metals. Make a pool of magnetic fluid 'dance' and explore how micro-structure makes materials like it useful in uncommon places. View materials at 30X magnification to observe the structure of different items. Find out how materials science and development of everyday 'stuff' has changed human history!
