The Ithaca Ballet, under artistic director Cindy Reid opens its 2018-19 season with the family friendly The Little Mermaid. On Saturday, October 20th there will be a matinee at 3 p.m. and evening performance at 7:30 p.m. of The Little Mermaid at the State Theatre in Ithaca, NY. Premiered in 2013, this will be the second performance of this original ballet in Ithaca.
Taken from the Hans Christian Anderson tale, this rendition has original music, choreography, and costumes by Lavinia Reid. The Little Mermaid is performed by senior dancer Anya Korfine; the Prince is guest artist Jacob Taylor (freelance professional from NYC), Neptune, King of the Sea is Trenton Loughlin-Weidemann (guest alumnus), the Sea Witch is (guest alumnus) Sylvie Finn, and Mermaid Grandmother is Rebecca Roberts. The four Mermaid Sisters are Ellie Derry, Ayla Naghsh, Maria Valencia and Lucy Williams.
The Ithaca Ballet’s season this year will also feature the Nutcracker Dec. 14-16, A Midsummer Night’s Dream on March 30th at the State theatre and SpringDance contemporary show in memory of Laurie Conrad on April 28 at the Hangar Theatre.
